The Big Dam Bridge ride was Sept. 26 in Little Rock. For those of you who don't know about the Big Dam Bridge, it is the largest cycling and pedestrian only bridge in the world (pretty sure about that, couldn't find the actual data on the website but whatever). Every year they have a bike ride to benefit the BDB foundation that keeps it up and whatnot. They offer rides of 15, 30, 50 and 100 miles and a 100K (supposed to be 62 miles but it ends up being 68). Last year Leighanne and I each rode the 50 mile route but we felt we could do more this year so she rode the 100K and I rode the 100 miles. Here is the map of the 100 mile routeThe ride broke down like this:
Miles 0-40 were Awesome! Familiar terrain, a slight tailwind on a beautiful day.
Miles 41-70 were Horrible! Lots of climbing and ferocious headwinds
Miles 71-100 were pleasant. By this time I was just happy to be out of the headwinds and going home.
This year about 1,900 people rode in the event. This is a picture of the line of folks behind us. There was probably about a half mile worth of people in front of us as well.

Proof that I actually did the ride.
Leighanne's mom, Jenny, rode the 100 miles with me. This is a picture of the 3 of us after the race. Leighanne's dad, Buddy, also rode the 30 mile route which is awesome considering he had both knees replaced in December (he took this pic which is why he is not in it).
All in all it was a really fun day. I kept saying to myself during the ride that once I finished I would never have to do this again, but it has been less than a week and I find myself already wanting to do it again next year. Hopefully next year I won't have to go to a wedding 2 hours after finishing the ride like we did this year.
